Filmmaker's Note
Distribution. The Deal. This is where independent filmmaking
gets tricky. We shopped the Picture around and the distributors
most interested were Bryanston and Cannon. Bryanston
Pictures was deciding between a film just recently made in
Texas and our film, Freedom: R.I.P. They ultimately decided to
go with the Texas production so we went with Cannon Releasing
Corporation who distributed the film "Joe" starring Peter Boyle.
Bryanston released the Texas film first, titled "Texas Chainsaw
Massacre" which became a huge cult favorite in the United
States. Cannon, I believe, liked the word Massacre and
changed the name of our film from Freedom: R.I.P. to "Northville
Cemetery Massacre" and distributed it heavily in Europe where it
has also become a huge cult favorite.
